The history of Halstead Bowling Club
The Club started in 1921, as part of the sports club for the Courtaulds factory. It has been in the town since inception and plays on the Courtauld Sports Ground on Colchester Road. There are currently in excess of 100 members, and the club is open to anyone above 8 years of age who is able to bowl safely.
Members Club
It is a members club, run solely by the members and featuring its own clubhouse built by the members and recently extended on the north side of the green.
Carpet Bowls
In the winter, the club runs carpet bowls afternoons for members on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and also puts on entertainment events.
A Storied Past: The History of Halstead Bowling Club
Established in 1921, Halstead Bowling Club has its roots in the sports club for the Courtaulds factory. Steeped in tradition, the club has always been a fixture in the town, situated at the Courtauld Sports Ground on Colchester Road. Today, our vibrant community boasts over 85 members, welcoming anyone aged 8 and above who can bowl safely.

Members Club
Halstead Bowling Club is a member-driven organization, featuring a clubhouse built and recently expanded by our dedicated members. Located on the north side of the green, our clubhouse stands as a testament to the community spirit that drives our club.
Carpet Bowls
From October to April, we offer indoor carpet bowls for members on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, along with engaging entertainment events. As the weather improves, we transition to outdoor activities, making the most of our beautiful greens.
Fundraising
In 2021, we proudly celebrated our centenary, marking 100 years of Halstead Bowling Club history. Leading up to this milestone, we undertook a significant refurbishment and extension of our clubhouse during 2019 and 2020, ensuring our facilities continue to meet the needs of our growing community.
